How to Play Easy FreeCell — Quick Guide

Goal:
Build up each home pile by suit, from A to K (A, 2, 3, …).
Moving Cards:
You can organise the columns by moving cards in descending order and alternating colors (like 5 on 6).
You can move a whole group of cards if they’re in sequence.
Free cells:
Each free cell can hold one card. Use them to free up space and help with moves.
Empty Columns:
You can start an empty column with any card.

Setting Up the Game

Dealing Out the Tableau

Item 1
In Relaxed FreeCell, the Tableau consists of 4 columns with 7 cards each and 4 columns with 6 cards each, arranged side-by-side.
Item 2
Stack each card so it only partially covers the one above it.
Item 3
Every card in the Tableau is dealt face-up.

Cells and Foundation Piles

Step 1
Leave room above the Tableau for 4 Cells and 4 Foundation Piles, arranged in a single row.

How to Win

Your goal is to build Foundation Piles. You win when every card has been removed from the Cells and Tableau.

Stacking Cards in the Tableau

Rule 1
Cards in the Tableau can only be stacked in alternating colors. A red card (Diamonds or Hearts) can only be placed under a black card (Spades or Clubs), and vice-versa.
Rule 2
A card can only be stacked below a card that is one rank higher. For example, a 5 can only be placed under a 6.
Rule 3
Empty spaces in the Tableau can be filled by any card.
Rule 4
Unlike traditional FreeCell, stacked cards can be moved together (even if there isn’t enough room in the Tableau to move them individually).

Moving Cards In and Out of Cells

Rule 1
Any card at the bottom of a column can be moved to an empty Cell.
Rule 2
A card can be moved out of a Cell if there is a suitable place for it in the Tableau or a Foundation Pile.
Rule 3
A Cell can only hold one card at a time. Cards cannot be stacked in Cells.

Building Foundation Piles

Rule 1
To start a Foundation Pile, move an Ace to an empty Foundation Pile.
Rule 2
Build each Foundation Pile by adding cards of the same suit that are one rank higher than the top card in the pile.
Rule 3
For example, if the top card in a Foundation Pile is the 9 of Clubs, you can only add the 10 of Clubs to it.
Rule 4
You can build Foundation Piles using cards from the Tableau or the Cells.
Rule 5
A Foundation Pile is complete when it contains all 13 cards of a single suit in ascending order, starting with the Ace and ending with the King.

Other Rules

Rule 1
Cards cannot be moved out of the Foundation Piles.

Playing Relaxed FreeCell Solitaire – The Layout

1.The Tableau
Deal 4 columns with 7 cards each and 4 columns with 6 cards, all face-up and slightly overlapping.
2.The Cells
Leave 4 spaces above the Tableau for the Cells.
3.The Foundation Piles
Leave 4 more spaces above the Tableau for your Foundation Piles.

The Gameplay

1.Stack Cards in Alternating Colors
Cards in the Tableau can only be stacked under cards with a different color suit.
2.Sort by Rank
Cards in the Tableau can only be placed under cards that are one rank higher.
3.Store Cards in the Cells
Use the Cells to store cards from the Tableau.
4.Use Empty Spaces in the Tableau
Empty spaces in the Tableau can be filled by any card.
5.Build Your Foundation Piles
Build each Foundation Pile in ascending order (from Ace to King). You win when every Foundation Pile is complete!

Strategies for Relaxed FreeCell Solitaire

Relaxed FreeCell eases some of the difficulty by allowing you to move stacks of cards, like you would in Klondike Solitaire. This might sound like a very small change to the rules, but it makes building the Foundation Piles and clearing the Tableau much easier.

It might be a relaxed version of the game, but you’ll still need a bit of skill to get a victory. Here are some tips for improving your gameplay:

Find Your Aces
Before making your first move, scan the Tableau and locate all the Aces. Look for the ones that are lowest in the Tableau and work your way toward them.
Use the Cells Strategically
Relaxed FreeCell is a very forgiving game, but you can still get stuck. Try to keep one or two Cells vacant as long as you can. If you fill them up too quickly, you might run out of moves.
Clear Away the Columns
An empty space in the Tableau is like having an extra Cell to work with. So when you have the opportunity to clear a column, take it!
