How to Play Triangle — Quick Guide

Goal:
Clear all the cards — from both the pyramid and the deck — by making pairs that add up to 13.
Cards:
You can only remove cards that aren’t covered by others.
A = 1, J = 11, Q = 12. Example pairs: 5+8, J+2, Q+A. K = 13, so it’s removed automatically.
Stockpile and Waste Pile:
Click the deck to deal 1 card into each of 2 separate waste piles.
You can use the top card from any waste pile to make a pair with another waste card or a card from the pyramid.
You get 1 pass through the deck.

Setting Up the Game

Dealing Out the Tableau

Item 1
In Triangle Pyramid Solitaire, the Tableau consists of 28 cards arranged in an upside-down pyramid.
Item 2
Start by dealing 7 cards for the top row. Then, deal six cards for the row below, so that the cards partially cover the ones in the row above. Each row has one fewer card than the previous, with the last row consisting of a single card.
Item 3
All cards in the Tableau are dealt face-up.

Setting Up the Piles

Step 1
The cards that are left after dealing out the Tableau will be stacked in a single pile, face-up. That’s your Stockpile.
Step 2
Leave space next to the Stockpile to create 2 Wastepiles.
Step 3
The Discard pile is off to the side.

Rules for Playing Triangle Pyramid Solitaire

How to Win

Your goal is to eliminate every card from the Tableau, Stockpile, and Wastepiles. You win when all 52 cards are in the Discard pile.

Eliminating Cards

You can only eliminate cards that have a combined value of 13. Kings can be eliminated alone. Other cards must be eliminated in pairs.

You cannot eliminate 3 or more cards at a time (for instance, an Ace, a 2, and a 10 cannot be eliminated together, even though they have a combined value of 13). Only pairs and Kings can be sent to the Discard pile.

The pairs you can eliminate are:

Option 1
Ace and Queen
Option 2
2 and Jack
Option 3
3 and 10
Option 4
4 and 9
Option 5
5 and 8
Option 6
6 and 7

Remark

Suits don’t matter when playing Triangle Pyramid Solitaire — any pair that adds up to 13 can be discarded together.

You can only pair cards that are fully exposed. Cards that are covered (even partially) cannot be played.

Drawing From the Stockpile

Rule 1
You can draw from the Stockpile at any point in the game.
Rule 2
You must draw 2 cards at a time and place them face-up on each of the Wastepiles.
Rule 3
You can only play the top cards from the Stockpile and Wastepiles.
Rule 4
You can only cycle through the Stockpile once.

Other Rules

Rule 1
You cannot add cards back to the pyramid, Stockpile, or Wastepiles.
Rule 2
You cannot move cards out of the Discard pile.

Playing Triangle Pyramid Solitaire – The Layout

1.The Tableau
28 cards arranged face-up in 7 rows to form an upside-down pyramid.
2.The Stockpile
All remaining cards are stacked face-up to create the Stockpile.
3.The Wastepile
Drawing from the Stockpile moves one card to each of the Wastepiles.

The Gameplay

1.Eliminate Pairs and King
Find pairs that add up to 13 and send them to the Discard pile.
2.Chip Away at the Pyramid
Eliminate cards from the pyramid.
3.Get Through the Piles
Getting rid of the pyramid isn’t enough — you also have to eliminate every card from the Stockpile and Wastepiles!

Strategies for Triangle Pyramid Solitaire

Triangle Pyramid Solitaire is extremely difficult to beat. In fact, you’ll have many rounds where you can’t even eliminate a single card!

Your odds of victory are slim, but a bit of strategy can still improve them:

Dig Through the Wastepiles
Eliminating cards from the Wastepiles will give you access to cards you’ve already cycled through.
Clear Card Strategically
You have very few shots at winning Triangle Pyramid Solitaire, so choose your pairs very carefully. Don’t just look at the cards you can eliminate, but also the cards hiding one or two rows above them.
Flex Your Memory Muscles:
If you can remember which cards are buried in the Wastepiles (and which pile they’re in), you’ll be able to play more strategically.
