How to Play King Tut (Turn 3) — Quick Guide

Goal:
Clear all the cards from the pyramid by making pairs that add up to 13.
Cards:
You can only remove cards that aren’t covered by others.
A = 1, J = 11, Q = 12. Example pairs: 5+8, J+2, Q+A. K = 13, so it’s removed automatically.
Stockpile and Waste Pile:
Click the deck to move 3 cards to the waste pile.
You can pair the top waste card with a pyramid card.
You can go through the deck as many times as you want.

Setting Up the Game

Dealing Out the Tableau

Item 1
In King Tut Pyramid Solitaire, the Tableau consists of 28 cards, arranged in a pyramid.
Item 2
Start by dealing a single card for the top row of the pyramid. Then, deal two more cards beneath that row, with both cards overlapping the one above it. Add one more card to each row until you’ve dealt out 7 rows.
Item 3
All cards in the Tableau are dealt face-up.
Item 4
Every card in the Tableau is dealt face-up.

Setting Up the Piles

Step 1
Stack all the remaining cards in a single pile, face-down. That’s your Stockpile.
Step 2
The space next to the Stockpile is your Wastepile.
Step 3
The Discard pile is off to the side.

Rules for Playing King Tut (Turn-3) Pyramid Solitaire

How to Win

Your goal is to eliminate every card from the pyramid and send them to the Discard pile. You win once all the cards in the Tableau have been discarded, even if there are cards left in your Stockpile or Wastepile.

Eliminating Cards

You can only eliminate cards that have a combined value of 13. Kings can be eliminated alone. Other cards must be discarded in pairs.

You cannot eliminate 3 or more cards at once (for instance, an Ace, a 3, and a 9 cannot be eliminated together, even though they have a combined value of 13). Only pairs and Kings can be sent to the Discard pile.

The cards that can be paired together are:

Option 1
Ace and Queen
Option 2
2 and Jack
Option 3
3 and 10
Option 4
4 and 9
Option 5
5 and 8
Option 6
6 and 7

Remark

Suits don’t matter when playing King Tut — all that matters is that every pair adds up to 13.

You can only pair cards that are fully exposed. You cannot play a card until the cards that cover or overlap it are eliminated.

Drawing From the Stockpile

Rule 1
You can draw from the Stockpile at any point in the game.
Rule 2
You must draw 3 cards at once and place them face-up in the Wastepile.
Rule 3
You can only play the top card from the Wastepile.
Rule 4
There is no limit on how many times you can cycle through the Stockpile.

Other Rules

Rule 1
You cannot add cards back to the pyramid to fill the empty spaces in the Tableau.
Rule 2
You cannot move cards out of the Discard pile.

Playing King Tut Turn-3 Pyramid Solitaire – The Layout

1.The Tableau
28 cards arranged face-up in 7 rows to form a pyramid.
2.The Stockpile
All remaining cards go face-down into the Stockpile.
3.The Wastepile
Drawing from the Stockpile moves three cards to the Wastepile.

The Gameplay

1.Eliminate Pairs and King
Find pairs that add up to 13 and send them to the Discard pile.
2.Tear Down the Pyramid
Work your way through the pyramid — you need to remove every card from the Tableau to win.
3.Endless Cycles
When you reach the end of your Stockpile, you can flip all the cards from Wastepile back into the Stockpile and cycle through it again.
4.Clear the Rest of the Tableau
Even with the pyramid gone, you won’t win until every card is in the Discard pile!

Strategies for King Tut (Turn-3) Pyramid Solitaire

King Tut is a version of Pyramid Solitaire where you draw 3 cards instead of one. That might sound like a small change, but it ramps up the difficulty. Winning at King Tut is mostly a matter of luck and few of the games you deal out will end in victory.

That being said, there are a few things you can do to improve your odds of winning:

Think Ahead
When you have a choice between two cards to eliminate from the pyramid, look at the cards underneath them. If getting rid of one card will reveal another, that’s the one you should send to the Discard pile.
Eliminate From the Pyramid First
Pair two cards from the pyramid whenever possible. Use the cards from the Wastepile only after running out of options in the pyramid.
Don’t Be Too Eager to Draw
Yes, you can cycle through the Stockpile as often as you want. But when you use a card from the Wastepile, the next cycle will give you access to a different set of cards. Take all the opportunities available to you — they might not be there the next time you cycle through the Stockpile!
