Take Away is a fairly difficult variant of Golf Solitaire and is a perfect way to give your brain a workout!
In Take Away, the Tableau consists of 4 columns with 13 cards each.
Stack cards in the columns so every card’s rank is visible.
Arrange all 4 columns side by side.
Every card in the Tableau is dealt face-up.
Leave room next to the Tableau for 6 Foundation Piles, arranged in 2 rows.
Your goal is to clear the cards from the Tableau. You win when every card has been moved to the Foundation Piles.
You can move any card from the bottom of a column to a Foundation Pile.
Empty spaces in the Foundation Piles can be filled by any card.
If there are cards in a Foundation Pile, you can add a card that is one rank higher or lower than the top card on the pile.
For example, if the top card is a 9, you can only add an 8 or a 10 on top of it.
Unlike regular Golf Solitaire, you can add an Ace on top of a King or a King on top of an Ace.
Suits don’t matter in Take Away.
You cannot move cards from one column to another.
Cards in the Foundation Piles cannot be moved back to the Tableau or to another Foundation Pile.

You win when there are no cards left in the Tableau!
At first blush, Take Away looks like an easy game. After all, there are 6 Foundation Piles to move cards into. But once you start playing, you’ll realize how quickly those empty spaces can get filled.
Like most versions of Golf Solitaire, Take Away is almost entirely skill-based. To win, you’ll need patience and a good strategy.
Here are some tips to help you sharpen your gameplay:
If you’re not careful, you can fill all the spaces in the Foundation Piles very quickly. Doing that will severely limit your options and will likely cost you a victory. Keep the empty spaces clear until you need them.
You’ll often be able to play a card in more than one Foundation Pile. Which one you choose makes a difference. Instead of placing it on whatever pile you can, choose the one that will open up more moves.
Always think two or three cards ahead. Take Away is all about strategy, so consider every possibility before making a move.
