Setting Up the Game

Dealing Out the Tableau

  • Item 1

In Relaxed Pyramid Solitaire, the Tableau consists of 28 cards arranged in a pyramid.

  • Item 2

Deal the top row by placing a single card on the Tableau. Then, deal two more cards below that row, with both cards overlapping the one in the row above. Add one more card to each row until you’ve dealt out seven rows.

  • Item 3

All cards in the Tableau are dealt face-up.

Setting Up the Piles

  • Step 1

Stack the remaining cards face-down to create your Stockpile.

  • Step 2

Leave a space next to the Stockpile for your Wastepile.

  • Step 3

The Discard pile is off to the side.

Rules for Playing Relaxed Pyramid Solitaire

How to Win

Your objective is to eliminate every card from the pyramid. You win when the Tableau is empty.

Eliminating Cards

Only cards with a combined value of 13 can be eliminated. Kings can be eliminated alone. Other cards must be discarded in pairs.

You cannot eliminate 3 or more cards at a time, even if they have a combined value of 13. Only pairs and Kings can be sent to the Discard pile.

The cards you can pair together are:

  • Option 1

    Ace and Queen

  • Option 2

    2 and Jack

  • Option 3

    3 and 10

  • Option 4

    4 and 9

  • Option 5

    5 and 8

  • Option 6

    6 and 7

Remark

Suits don’t matter in Relaxed Pyramid Solitaire — all that matters is that the pairs add up to 13.

You can only pair cards that are fully exposed. If another card covers or overlaps it, it cannot be played until that card has been discarded.

Drawing From the Stockpile

  • Rule 1

You can draw from the Stockpile at any point in the game.

  • Rule 2

Draw one card at a time and place it face-up in the Wastepile.

  • Rule 3

You can only play the top card from the Wastepile.

  • Rule 4

You can only cycle through the Stockpile three times.

Other Rules

  • Rule 1

You cannot add cards back to the pyramid to fill the empty spaces in the Tableau.

  • Rule 2

You cannot move cards out of the Discard pile.

Strategies for Relaxed Pyramid Solitaire

As the name implies, Relaxed Pyramid Solitaire is an easier variant of Pyramid Solitaire. In this one, you don’t have to clear the Stockpile and Wastepile to win - once the pyramid’s gone, you’re victorious.

Even though it’s easy, there’s still an element of skill. Follow these tips to improve your strategy:

  • Don’t Be Quick to Draw

You can only cycle through your Stockpile three times, so only draw when you absolutely need to.

  • Stay One Step Ahead

When choosing between two cards you could eliminate, look at the cards underneath them. Discard the one that will give you access to the more advantageous card.
