Playing Spider Solitaire — Your Layout

Spider Solitaire offers you a twist to the original variant. But don’t be fooled by its simple layout. This crafty spider masks its challenging web with a disguise to draw in novices. Understand the layout, and you’ll see why!

Spider Solitaire layout has only two main sections — The Tableau and The Stockpile.

  • 1.The Tableau

At first glance, you will notice the largest section with stacked columns of cards. This section is called the Tableau and consists of 54 out of 104 cards. 44 cards are arranged face-down, and 10 face-up cards. From left to right, the first four columns have 6 cards each, with the 5 cards facing down and the last card facing up. The remaining six columns have 5 cards each, with 4 cards facing down and the last facing up.

  • 2.The Stockpile

Your ‘fun stash’ consists of the remaining 50 cards. This stack of cards is called the Stockpile and tests the boundaries of your self-restraint. The Stockpile cards are face down and free to use anytime during the game. But wait! This is where the web gets sticky. Using cards from the Stockpile can either make or break your game. Surprise! We told you it's a fun challenge. Every time you access the Stockpile 10 cards are revealed at the same time — One card for each Tableau column.

    The Stockpile

No Wastepile. No Foundation. Simple.

Cards drawn from the Stockpile have to be used! While there isn't an apparent Foundation section, it is implied when you win, and your cards therapeutically swirl around your screen.

  • 1.Your mission is to organize cards in descending order from King to Ace in their respective suits. However, you can move cards between columns irrespective of their suit as long as the destination card is one rank higher. Don’t worry. You can even move multiple cards in their numerical sequence to other columns.

  • 2.You can draw cards from the Stockpile when no moves are possible. However, you can run through your entire Stockpile of 50 cards in just five times. How? Each time you draw from it, a set of ten cards is revealed — One card for every column. However, don’t get sucked into addictively clicking the Stockpile. The Stockpile has the power to release imprisoned cards or completely block any future moves.
