If you’re new to Solitaire, the board may seem confusing at first — there are random cards in stacks, empty spaces, and some face-down cards. However, like any card game, the layout of Turn-Three (Face-Up) Solitaire has a purpose. You only have to deal with a single deck of cards in this game, which keeps things simple. There are four main areas on the board, and each serves a specific purpose.
There are many similarities between traditional Solitaire and this Solitaire version. One similarity lies in the layout of the Tableau columns — there are 28 cards on the Tableau that come from a deck of 52 cards. However, in this variant, there’s no mystery to the cards in each column because they all face up! All you have to do to win is organize them into the Foundation or on the Tableau itself.
Similar to traditional Turn-Three Solitaire, you draw three cards every time you access the Stockpile. The three drawn cards face upward on the Wastepile, while the remaining cards in the Stockpile stay face-down. Only the top card of the three drawn cards is usable in a single move. If you want to use the third card of the three, you must move the other two first.
The space where you see the drawn Stockpile cards is the Wastepile. Essentially, you use the Stockpile cards only after they move face-up onto the Wastepile. All unused cards in the Wastepile move back to the Stockpile when no more cards can be drawn.
You win the game once you move all the cards in the game to the Foundation cells according to their suits from Ace to King. You can move cards to the Foundation from the Tableau or from the cards in the Wastepile. The Foundation does not necessarily need to be filled — if all the cards that you need to move to the Foundation are ready on the Tableau, the end-game feature will automatically send them to the Foundation for you.

The Stockpile is a great place to find cards you need in order to continue playing. However, use your Stockpile with caution. It’s usually better to use one or two Stockpile cards instead of all three that are drawn. This way, you can see fresh options when you cycle through the Stockpile again.
Remember that the Tableau is the largest space on the board that you have to organize. The Stockpile is only a venue to help with it.
Yes, filling out the Foundation is your ticket to winning. However, the Foundation fills automatically at the end of the game if you have all your cards revealed and laid out in the Tableau columns. Filling up your Foundation piles during the game is fine, but it can bury cards that would otherwise be helpful in the Tableau, so be careful.
You can finish a Solitaire game in less than 3 minutes. The minimum number of turns it takes is 52, one for each card.
Microsoft Solitaire programmer Wes Cherry included a “Boss Mode” in the game to let players play during work hours. However, Microsoft denied implementing it.
